Despite competition Sunday night from ABC and the Billboard Music Awards, HBO saw strong numbers across the board, with Game of Thrones again setting a new series high in the ratings.
For the fourth time during the fourth season of HBO's hit fantasy drama, GoT set a new viewership record for the show, edging out the last high set two weeks ago, with about 7.2 million viewers. An additional 1.3 million tuned in for an encore, giving the show a total of 8.5 million viewers.
The numbers are also a nice rebound from May 11's episode, which dipped down to 6.4 million viewers. The improved ratings come as GoT is set to take next weekend off.
Veteran comedy Veep also had a strong night, pulling in its third consecutive season high with 1.1 million viewers during its initial telecast. Encore numbers boosted the Julia Louis-Dreyfus comedy up to 1.5 million viewers for Sunday.
Freshman comedy series Silicon Valley remained steady from last week with 1.7 million viewers tuning in for the initial telecast and the encore numbers bumping it up to 2 million for the night. Four episodes in and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver also continues the program's strong run, with the late-night program drawing a little over 1.3 million viewers between its two showings.
