Two of Oscar Pistorius’ closest neighbors testified for the defense on Tuesday about what they heard the morning the Paralympian fatally shot his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

CNN reported that Michael Nhlengethwa and his wife, Eontle, said they were awakened the morning in question by a “bang.”

Nhlengthwa’s wife testified that she then heard screams, which sounded like they were coming from a man.

After Johan Stander and his daughter took the stand on Monday, the Nhlengethwas were the third and fourth neighbors to testify for the defense. The couple lived the closest to the sprint runner’s villa.

The Associated Press noted that their bedroom window was about 80 feet from the balcony doors of Pistorius' bedroom.

Prosecutors believe that the double amputee intentionally shot Steenkamp after the two had an argument in the early morning hours of Valentine’s Day 2013. However, Pistorius contends that he only shot the model after mistaking her for an intruder in his home.

He has plead not guilty to murder and weapons charges.
