After hosting his 6,829th Jeopardy episode on Friday, Alex Trebek managed to break the Guinness World Record as the longest running host of a television game show.
Trebek, now 73, has been consistently hosting the show since 1984 and has a whopping 416,569 questions under his belt, reports ABC News.
“The record can, could and probably will be broken by someone else,” Trebek said, according to New York Daily News. He was referring to Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak, who is 67 and has been hosting the show for thirty years.
Though Trebek is expected to retire at the end of the 2015-2016 TV season, Sony Pictures has yet to announce a replacement, reports ABC News.
“The good news is as long as I keep hosting the program, I stay ahead of whoever’s in second place and that makes me feel good,” Trebek told Peoplemagazine.
Trebek hails from Canada and got his start as a newsman. He plans to hang the certificate declaring his world record on the stairway leading to his bedroom so that he can see it on a daily basis.
