The question we all wondered was answered Thursday night as the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Kansas Forward Andrew Wiggins with the first pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
This selection contradicted many previous reports that had Duke’s Jabari Parker as the Cavs’ favorite. 2014 marks the third time in four years that Cleveland received the number one selection, according to CBSsports.com. In 2011 they hit gold by selecting point-guard Kyrie Irving while so-far striking out on Anthony Bennett in last year’s draft.
In Wiggins’ sole collegiate season as a Jayhawk, he averaged 17.1 points-per-game, 5.9 rebounds and a block, according to BasketballReference.com. Standing at 6-8 and weighing 200-pounds, Wiggins will automatically become Cleveland’s number-one big, hopefully to be that low post-presence that can mesh well with Kyrie Irving on the perimeter.
The big question right now is how former Cavalier and free-agent LeBron James feels about this acquisition. Is it enough for James to consider making a bold and historic return to his home city?
Could a team of LeBron James, Andrew Wiggins and Kyrie Irving be enough for “The King” to pursue the back-half of his career where he started it?
