Those fans looking forward to seeing actor Aaron Paul reprise his role as Jesse Pinkman in the upcoming Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul should prepare to feel disappointed now. Paul has just revealed that he will not be participating in the upcoming series.

When talking to The Huffington Post, Paul revealed that he won't be returning to his role in the show, saying, "To be honest, it’s not gonna happen. There’s rumors floating around that I’m going to be doing it, but that’s simply not the case.”

He went to add that, "[Vince Gilligan and I] haven’t talked about it. I mean, we’ve joked around about it, but it’s a prequel. I have no idea how [Jesse] would show up. I’m much older now. But I don’t look older, I look kinda younger, which is strange.”

Considering that the previous attempt at the end of the final season to make both Paul, Bryan Cranston and Anna Gunn return to their first season's selves gathered a kind-of mixed response—at least in terms of make-up and their appearance—it would make sense that trying to make any of them appear even younger than they were then would probably be at least a little silly. Still, it is a little disheartening to hear that Paul won't return to the character that made his career.

That's not to say that Paul has any shortage of career options to work with, however. Paul was recently seen Need For Speed, A Long Way Down and Hellion earlier this year, and will soon be seen in Exodus: Gods and Kings later this year. If that wasn't enough, he also provides his voice to the upcoming Netflix series BoJack Horseman, set to premiere August 22, 2014. He is also currently filming a role in Triple Nine, which along with Fathers and Daughters—another movie he is starring in—is set to be released next year.

Of course, there is still always the possibility that Paul is just pulling our legs, and wants everyone to be surprised once he appears on the screen in the new show. Although, he seems pretty sincere here, which would imply that he is telling the truth. Nevertheless, whether Paul is involved or not, Vince Gilligan and his crew are currently at work on Better Call Saul, which got its premiere pushed back to early 2015 but has already been renewed for a second season.
