Alex Colome (1-0) allowed just one run over 5.2 innings in his first game after serving a 50-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
Colome walked four and gave up just two hits in his first start of the calendar year. The Tampa Bay Rays (33-48) defeated the Baltimore Orioles (41-37) 5-2 in the series opener.
The game was the first of a doubleheader today. The Rays (33-48) will the play the Orioles (41-37) in the nightcap at 7:05 ET according to MLB.com
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, Tampa Bay scored two runs thanks to a Brandon Guyer RBI double and a Matt Joyce RBI single. Jose Molina added to the Rays total in the fourth inning with a single to right field that scored Matt Joyce.
Kevin Gausman (3-2) was tagged for five runs on seven hits and four walks in five innings. Gausman will head back to Triple-A after game two of the doubleheader.
At 33-48, the Rays matched their worst mark since 2007, finishing 66-96, according to the Tampa Bay Times
