Just call her Dame Angelina. Well, sort of.
For her work in fighting against sexual crime and war rape, Angelina Jolie has been named an honorary dame by Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, The Guardian reported. Jolie has been working along side foreign secretary William Hague during a summit in London about war rape.
The two co-funded the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative and Jolie was nominated for the birthday 2014 honors because of her services when it came to foreign policy in the United Kingdom, as well as her work in the campaign against sexual violence in war.
Jolie responded to the honor by saying, “To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to. Working on PSVI and with survivors of rape is an honor in itself.”
ABC News reported that since Jolie is not a British citizen, she won’t be known as a dame, much like Dame Maggie Smith of the Harry Potter.
In the honors list for the Queen’s birthday, there have been 1,149 people included for their work in fields such as education and health with women receiving 49% of the honors.
People on the list of honors include people of all ages from a late 19-year-old cancer victim to a 99-year-old woman for “service to the community,” The Guardian also reported.
