After more than 20 years in radio serving as “The Voice of New York City, " Angie Martinez is saying goodbye.
The 43-year-old DJ announced her retirement from Hot 97 via Instagram saying, “This was one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways.” Martinez thanked Hot 97 and her listeners and told fans to "stay tuned."
According to New York Daily News, Hot 97 responded, saying that Martinez “exemplified professionalism and passion for music.”
Angie Martinez has worked in radio since 1987 and has for years been the host of her own show "The Afternoon Drive." She has interviewed such big names as Kanye West, Jay-Z, and even President Barack Obama during his 2008 presidential campaign. She has also enjoyed a career as a rapper and actress and was featured on the hit single “Not Tonight,” with Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes, Missy Elliott, Lil’ Kim and Da Brat.
