New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft says Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh is wants the NFL draft in the city.
The NFL wants the 2015 draft in a new venue and with the NFL focusing on Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City as potential hosts.
Robert Kraft, speaking at the annual Myra Kraft Community MVP awards, was asked about Boston hosting the draft. He told CSN New England, “ That’s a decision for Mayor Walsh who has called me and said that he is very interested in it. He has had his staff working with the NFL. We’d love to see it happen. It’s about do we have the proper venue in the City of Boston, and what would it do for tourism and the so-called sizzle factor.”
The Boston mayor released a statement saying, “The Mayor would love to see the NFL draft come to Boston. He’s a long-time Patriots season ticket holder,” Boston Globe reports.
The NFL has already sent out letters to several cities asking for more information in three departments, availability on two blocks of dates in late April/early May, ability to host an NFL fans festival, and hotel availability, NFL.com reports.
With Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City as the front-runners, Boston is considered a long shot.
