In a warm-up for the Primetime Emmys, the final season of Breaking Bad and the first season of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black took home the top awards at the Broadcast Television Journalists Association’s fourth annual Critics’ Choice Awards.
Breaking Bad won Best Drama Series and also won Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for Aaron Paul. Bryan Cranston lost Best Lead Actor to True Detective’s Matthew McConaughey.
The other drama winners were Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) best Best Lead Actress; Allison Janney (Masters of Sex) for Best Guest Performer; and Bellamy Young (Scandal) for Best supporting Actress.
Over on the comedy side of things, OITNB won Best Comedy Series and Kate Mulgrew tied with Mom’s Janney for Best Supporting Actress.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) won Best Actress, while Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) took home Best Actor. best supporting Actor went to Andre Braugher (Brooklyn Nine-Nine).
Best TV Movie went to HBO’s The Normal Heart, while FX’s Fargo took home Best Mini-series. Fargo’s Allison Tolman won Best Supporting Actress and The Normal Heart’s Matt Bomer won Best Supporting Actor. Billy Bob Thornton (Fargo) and Jessica Lange (American Horror Story: Coven) won in the lead categories.

The ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and aired on The CW. Cedric the Entertainer hosted.
