Cameron Crowe fans—especially those who consider his 2000 film Almost Famous to be his best film—rejoice, for he is now working with Showtime to bring the new show Roadies to the small screen.
Nikki Finke.com got the scoop on the news. While details are not well known, the show is an ensemble comedy centered on a U.S. rock tour. Crowe intends to direct at least the pilot for the series, something he plans to do before the end of the year. This will mark his first foray into television.
While Crowe is definitely involved with the show, he will not be its showrunner. That responsibility is being handed to Winnie Holzman, who created My So-Called Life, and also served as a writer on shows like thirtysomething and Once and Again. Additionally, producing the potential series will be J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot company.
Crowe's next work is a still untitled romantic comedy set in Hawaii with Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone and Bill Murray, among others, set to star. The movie is scheduled to be released this Christmas.
