CBS has promoted Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts to the number two position for broadcasting NFL games.
CBS needed a new broadcasting team after Dan Dierdorf ended his 29-year career of calling NFL games. He was the longest-tenured analyst at the time of his retirement, according to The Big Lead .
The pair has worked together for four seasons and brings humor into the broadcast as well as any broadcast team. This move will also strengthen CBS’s number three team, which is expected to feature Greg Gumble, Dierdorf’s former partner, and newcomer Trent Green, as Richard Dietsch reports in Sports Illustrated .
Eagle told Dietsch “I’m thrilled that Dan and I get to continue our partnership. Chemistry is so hard to predict. [CBS Sports chairman] Sean McManus put us together five years ago and he had the foresight that we could be an entertaining combination. We will cover things the same way. It may be going to a larger audience but that won’t change how we approach the game.”
Fouts said “There are very few guys in the business that worked harder than Ian. When you have a partner like that, nothing will be missed.
A CBS spokeswoman said the rest of the CBS NFL broadcasting team for 2014 would be released later this week.
