With the success of X-Men: Days of Future Past at the box office and amongst movie fans, all eyes are looking forward to the upcoming sequel and it would appear that with each day Channing Tatum is closer to securing the role of playing Gambit in the X-Men cinematic universe.
MTV reported that Tatum has been on record saying he wants to play the character and following his comments X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has gone on record saying that Tatum is her choice for the role but things are not yet official.
In a recent interview while promoting 22 Jump Street, Tatum explained that even though nothing is official they are moving forward creativity. “Creatively, we’re starting to chug forward. Obviously there’s nothing [official],” Tatum explained to MTV News. “There are only conversations and dreams right now, really.”
He also added that he has been really self pitching his work for this character. "It’s a weird, pinching-myself moment that we’re even having the conversation," said Tatum.
It has been rumored that Gamit would be featured in the sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past X-Men: Apocalypse but Tatum is hoping for a stand alone film for Gambit. We’ve talked about it being a standalone, first, and actually trying to change the ‘hero, superhero movie.’ Because Gambit is not your typical hero. He’s a thief. He walks on the gray. I’m hoping we can change it a little bit, and then ultimately feather into the other ones," Tatum explained during his recent interview.
X-Men: Apocalypse will be released in theaters on May 27, 2016, Comicbook.com added.
