Cincinnati Reds’ Pitcher Mike Leake pitched well against the San Francisco Giants. He had a career night striking out 12 batters he faced. Leake gave an explanation after the game was over on his strikeout total. He did not feel he had that many strikeouts and stated he does not really care for strikeouts in general.

''It didn't feel like that many. But I guess it's a big accomplishment. I'm not high on strikeouts,'' said Leake, reported by the Associated Press.

The team's manager Bryan Price believes if Leake wanted to he could be a strikeout pitcher all the time. With a fastball in the range of 93 to 94 miles per hour, Price says Leake should not be embarrassed to have that kind of fastball. Being a former pitching coach, Price understands from experience Leake’s style of pitching.

"He's pretty consistent hitting 93, 94 mph with his fastball. That's not a fastball you have to apologize for. He could throw more pitches and be less effective but strike out more guys," said Price, according to the Associated Press.

After having a record of 14 wins and six losses last season, the pitcher from Arizona State University has just six wins and six losses this season, proven by baseball-reference.com. He is looking to improve his win total and recapture the success he had last year with the Cincinnati Reds. Things are only looking better after his stellar performance Thursday night.
