Mat Latos (1-0) pitched seven frames to get his first win of 2014 in his third start of the year. The Reds (39-38) took the lead with a three-run sixth inning to move ahead of the Cubs (32-44) and win the series at Wrigley.

Latos allowed just one run thanks to a Billy Hamilton grounder to center field. Latos fanned five and gave up just five hits in seven impressive innings of work. Latos’ fastball topped out at 92 mph according to The Cincinnati Enquirer

Latos continues to build his arm strength after a right elbow surgery in April kept him out the first 10 weeks, according to MLB.com

Reds outfielder Jay Bruce went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including a RBI double in the sixth inning. First baseman Joey Votto also brought a run home in the sixth, and drew two walks. Second baseman Skip Schumaker laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Devin Mesoraco.

Cubs Pitcher Edwin Jackson (5-8) gave up four runs on six hits and four walks in his 5.1 innings of work.
