Several sources have said that the San Francisco 49ers and Colin Kaepernick have reached a six-year extension to keep the quarterback in town through 2020.

According to ESPN, sources close to the team have said that the deal is worth a reported $110 million, with $61 million guaranteed. The deal makes the QB one of highest paid at the position.

The Niners were expected to sign Kaepernick, who was entering the final year of his contract, to a rather large deal, but halted talks with him in April amid a police investigation.

Kaepernick said then that allegations were completely false and asked his fans to keep faith in him. Fortunately for him, the team did as well.

The 26-year-old took over the starting job midway through the 2011 season after Alex Smith went down. That same year, he led the team to the Super Bowl, but eventually lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

Smith was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs last season and Kaepernick took over the full-time duties. He led the 49ers to the NFC Championship game in which they were defeated by the Seattle Seahawks.

It remains to be seen if Kaepernick will be an above-average QB and can bring San Francisco a sixth Super Bowl title.
