Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay’s driver’s license has been suspended for one year following his arrest for driving while intoxicated.
According to the Indianapolis Star, a Hamilton County court suspended the owner’s license last week until May 27, 2015.
Irsay was pulled over by police on March 16 and booked on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance.
The 54-year-old refused to take a blood test at the time.
The Associated Press notes that Indiana law requires a one-year suspension for anyone who does not submit to the test.
Irsay is due back in court on June 19 for two misdemeanor counts of impaired driving. He could also face discipline from the NFL. However, league commissioner Roger Goodell has not said if and what disciplinary action will be taken against the franchise owner.
The Indianapolis Colts have been in the Irsay family since its days in Baltimore, when his father Robert had control of the team. After he suffered a stroke and passed away, Irsay got involved in a legal battle with his stepmother over control and eventually became the youngest owner of a team at the age of 37.
