Outfielder Coco Crisp lined a walk-off 10th inning single off of Koji Uehara on Saturday giving the Athletics a 2-1 victory, their third in a row against Boston.
Crisp's second game-winning hit in as many days was his only hit of the day. A's starter Jesse Chavez pitched seven scoreless innings, until a non-reviewable and controversial call tied the game at 1 apiece.
The Dan Otero improved to 6-1, and Edward Mujica fell to 2-3, according to http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2014_06_21_bosmlb_oakmlb_1&mode=recap_home&c_id=oak#gid=2014_06_21_bosmlb_oakmlb_1&mode=recap&c_id=oak)MLB.com. Boston missed out on a lot of opportunities, leaving 8 runners on base and going 0-6 in Team RISP.
A’s reliever Luke Gregerson gave up one-out singles to Brock Holt and David Ortiz, with Dustin Pedroia grounding into a forceout in between. With two out Mike Napoli waved at a 2-2 pitch, but homeplate umpire Quinn Wolcott ruled it a foul ball. TV replays showed the ball landing in catcher Stephen Vogt’s glove. Gregerson’s next pitch was wild and dribbled far enough for Dustin Pedroia to race home from third base.
The two teams finish a 4-game series tomorrow at 4:05 PM.
