Here are the top headlines in the world of sports on this wonderful Sunday in early June.
Another Triple Crown frown
Again it has happened. The anticipation of yet another magical day goes up in smoke as California Chrome finishes in a dead heat for fourth place with Wicked Strong, according to NY Daily News. Tonalist was the victor on Saturday afternoon, stunning many, as it seemed California Chrome did not have his regular jump we saw at the Derby and the Preakness.
It does not shock most of us though, as this marks the 12th time since 1978 that a horse has failed to capture the elusive Triple Crown.
Cramps for the King, Game 2 tonight
Usually the 90 degree climate for a basketball game is reserved for Rucker Park in NYC on a hot August afternoon, but in Game 1 of the 2014 NBA Finals, the Spurs and Heat battled through each other and the conditions.
Despite the Spurs brilliant comeback in the fourth quarter, the only talk about this one was the embarrassing ways of the conditions. The AT&T Center’s air conditioning broke, and the game took place regardless.
LeBron James had to leave the game in the fourth quarter with leg cramps and Twitter responded.
Game 2 is tonight.
LA over NY again
It must be groundhog-day because Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals resembled Game 1 way too much. Again the Rangers took a two-goal lead in the game, and again the Kings stormed back to tie it up, according to Sports National Post.
The frustration level for New York is at an all-time high. Despite playing well every period of the first two games aside from one (third period of Game 1), the Rangers come home empty handed.
A due or die Game 3 for the Rangers is set for Monday night.
