Transformers: Age of Extinction has taken off on a slow sprint in the box office with an opening number of $8.75 million and $1.4 million in IMAX screenings. Though still expected to hit 1 million over the weekend, the opening number makes it the lowest opening for the Transformers franchise. Age of Extinction stars Mark Wahlberg instead of Shia LaBeouf and is directed by Michael Bay.
Fans of the latest Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy are getting the opportunity to catch an exclusive screening of the film before its Aug. 1st release. On July 7th, 150 theaters across the nation will preview 17-minutes of the film in IMAX 3D. Fans can register and see if they qualify for the screening at seeitfirst.com.
Matt Lauer has come under fire after asking General Motors CEO, Mary Barra about her work/home life balance. The Today Show anchor interviewed Barra over the millions of recalled vehicles and included a question regarding how she balances being a mom and managing a company such as General Motors. In a Facebook post, Lauer defended the question by stating it wasn’t meant to be taken as a sexist question and had the GM CEO been a man, he would have still asked the same question. Lauer claims the question came up after she mentioned having to miss her son’s junior prom.
NBC has announced a special showing of Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz tour on July 6th at 9 PM. The network will air a documentary of the tour, which features behind the seen footage and performances. The documentary footage will also follow her around during her stops in Spain and Portugal.
Jason Bateman has signed on to direct a Universal comedy involving the FBI and weddings. Bateman made his directorial debut in the film, Bad Words and will now direct a comedy in which two FBI agents having a fake affair get married in a ploy to catch the mob. A release date has not yet been announced.
