Darren Aronofsky developing ‘MaddAddam,’ based on Margaret Atwood novels, for HBO

Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky is developing a project based on a Margaret Atwood novel. The project is a dystopian sci-fi trilogy for HBO called MaddAddam.

The project is set in a mid-21st century in a world where corporations have taken over for governments and the “genetic modification of organisms that is perversely ubiquitous,” according to HBO Watch. The story focuses on a time when a Waterless Flood wipes out all of the world’s population. The project is based on Atwood’s trilogy, Oryx and Crake, Year Of The Flood, and MaddAddam.

Aronofsky will be developing Atwood’s MaddAddam with his Protozoa Pictures, according to the Deadline. Producer Brandi-Ann Milbradt will serve as executive producer with collaborator, Ari Handel, the president of Protozoa Pictures. Aronofksy penned the deal for MaddAddam with HBO in January.

The new project comes after the success of his latest controversial film, Noah, which had a great box office success, totaling $345 million. Aronofsky has also been recognized for Black Swan, Pi, and Requiem for a Dream.
