After a year away from the game, British soccer star David Beckham has hinted that he may return. Beckham is hoping to found a MLS team in Miami and may just play for the team.

Beckham, 39, appears in a new BBC One documentary and suggests that he may become an owner-player. “There's never been a player-owner but maybe?” he says.

Also in the film, he admits to having a hard time adjusting to life outside of soccer, but he has had “a stage of enjoying the rest” and is now interested in playing again. Anytime he sees athletes performing at their best, “it gives me that itch again and I want to be back in the game and I start thinking to myself 'Could I play again? Could I go back? Could I come out of retirement and start playing again?'”

Beckham announced his retirement in May 2013. For months he has been trying to get a Miami MLS team off the ground, which may require an entire new stadium built in the city. However, The Miami Herald notes that he has had trouble getting the approval to build it on public land.

The soccer star’s group has offered to pay just $500,000 a year in rent, but City Manager Daniel Alfonso told the Herald they would have to pay much more - between $12 million to $14 million.

BBC One will be airing David Beckham: Into the Unknown on Monday in the U.K.
