David Nelson, WR for the New York Jets, has missed the first week of OTAs, Organized Team Activities, because of his health. This problem arose after he was bitten by a mosquito on a Trip to Haiti for charity work.
What sounds harmless took a turn for the worst as he had a fever spike of 104 degrees and a strep throat.
“I was quarantined,” Nelson said according to ProFootballTalk.
Nelson and his brothers own the charity event he was in Haiti for. It is called “I’m Me”. They provide food, shelter and education to orphans in underprivileged country via Gamedayr. He splits his time between the states and Haiti based on the NFL season.
The Jets signed Nelson four games into the 2013 season. Near the end of the season he became one of, if not the most reliable WRs on the team. In 12 games he finished with a total of 36 receptions, 423 yards and two touchdowns – both came week 16 against the Cleveland Browns. In total he averaged 11.8 yards per reception.
