Demi Lovato is speaking out once again on a secret she has kept from the media for a while and that is her grandfather’s sexuality.
During the taping of Logo TV’s new special Trailblazers which will air on its network on this Thursay, June 26th, at 9pm honoring LGBT civil rights pioneers. The television special has teamed up with The Trevor Project to present a special hour event featuring celebrities, politicians and activists who are making strides for equality for all. The event is taking place at The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine which was the first church to perform gay marriage in New York according to the networks website.
Lovato spoke out about her grandfather before introducing one of the honorees, Netflix’s Orange is the New Black by saying, "He was brave enough to come out in the 1960s, and I feel a lot of my spirit has come from him.”
The special is taking place on the anniversary of the Defense Of Marriage Act’s fall also honoring Edie Windsor & Roberta Kaplan (the women who began the initiative to have DOMA overruled) and Jason Collins (the first out male in professional sports in the US).
Lovato continued on to say, “"He passed away a few years later, and I only wish he could have seen all the progress that has been made. It's such an honor to be welcomed and embraced by the LGBT community,” reports People.
President Bill Clinton, Daniel Radcliffe, Adam Levine, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Ed Sheeran and more will make other special appearances during the feature.
