Boston comedian Denis Leary is coming back to FX, but he’s ditching the firefighter gear for a guitar and a mullet. The Rescue Me actor will star in Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, which just earned a series order from the network on Monday.
Leary created the series, which centers on a washed-up rock star named Johnny Rock, who is trying to make a comeback in middle age. He was once the frontman for the Heathens and now that he’s turning 50, he hopes to bring the group back together.
According to TheWrap, Leary’s co-stars include John Corbett (Northern Exposure), Elizabeth Gillies, Elaine Hendrix and Bobby Kelly. Leary will also executive produce under Apostle banner with Jim Serpico.
“It's great to be back in business with Denis Leary, Jim Serpico and Tom Sellitti, and we’re thrilled to start on a new project that is both unique and hilarious,” FX president of original programming Eric Schrier said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “Johnny Rock is the role that Denis Leary was born to play.”
Fox Television Studios and FX Productions are producing the series. The network ordered 10 episodes, which will begin airing sometime next year.
