A deal that would make Derek Fisher the next head coach of the New York Knicks is reportedly being finalized.
Sources spoke with New York Daily News and said that Fisher and team president Phil Jackson are locking down a deal. The team is also said to be quite sure the deal is nearly in place.
If the deal gets signed, then a press conference would likely have to be held on Tuesday because Jackson is about to leave for Turkey as part of a vacation and his son's wedding.
Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that league sources say that the contract is a five-year deal, reportedly worth $25 million.
It's no secret that the Knicks and Jackson have been pursuing Fisher, as the team was even fined $25,000 because of comments Jackson made at a press conference. The league has strict rules that are supposed to keep coaches and executives from speaking to or about another team's players.
He noted that he was interested in speaking with Fisher about the job once the season was over for the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Knicks pushed to snag Fisher after potential candidate Steve Kerr opted to coach the Golden State Warriors.
