It is clear to baseball fans around the world that Derek Jeter is playing his last season in pinstripes. However, it is not clear what the Yankee captain will be doing in the immediate future. One thing that Jeter would love to do is become an owner of an MLB franchise.
“That’s the next goal, buddy. Calling the shots, not answering to someone, that’s what interests me,” said Jeter, reported by the New York Post.
If Jeter were to own an MLB franchise, he says he would be a behind the scenes kind of owner. He would not be a owner like George Steinbrenner was. Even with that said, Jeter believes he learned a lot from Steinbrenner when he was calling the shots for the Yankees organization.
“I’d probably be a little bit more behind the scenes than the Boss,” he said. “But I learned a lot of things from the Boss,” said Jeter, confirmed by the New York Post.
Despite his interest in owing a team, the superstar shortstop has not reached out to anyone yet. One theory that could end up happening after his playing days is he could be apart of an ownership team like Magic Johnson has for the Dodgers and own the New York Yankees. If Jeter were to be apart of a group owning the Yankees, he could perhaps add name value to the franchise, says CBS.
