On Sunday night, ESPN debuted the new set for its flagship show, SportsCenter.
The new set, which measures 194,000 square feet, has 114 monitors, as compared to the old set, which had 15, according to USA Today.
Stuart Scott and Steve Levy were the anchors on the 11:00 p.m. show, which was the first broadcast from the new set. The old set had been used for the past 10 years.
In addition to the futuristic-looking backdrop, ESPN unveiled its newly designed Bottom Line. It features a larger font size, called Swiss. The logos of the teams are more apparent and in brighter colors. Furthermore, the transition from one score to the next is smoother.
While Sunday night’s SportsCenter looked radically different from the old set, Scott and Levy barely scratched the surface of the new scenery.
“I think the SportsCenter we do on Sunday night will look vastly different to three months from now,” Levy told The Hollywood Reporter . “Mistakes happen, they happened on the old set and they will on the new set. There are going to be some growing pains and a feeling-out phase.”
The set, which cost about $125 million to design and build, features a social-media studio. This addition will help to bring the show further along into the social-media-driven world. It will allow the anchors to be more interactive with the audience, reports Bleacher Report.
On the first show, Scott and Levy showed highlights from the World Cup, the U.S. Women’s Open and Sunday’s baseball action.
