In life there are two ways you can lose at something when you are already at the end of your rope – quietly and hope no one notices or in a blaze of glory to forever be remembered. A contestant on Thursday’s episode of Jeopardy chose the latter.
It was time for Final Jeopardy where Ari Youkydis came into play as the clue category was “Science and Industry” with the question, “In 1891, this European said, ‘Perhaps my factories will put an end to war sooner than your Congresses.” Entertainment Weekly reports that the correct answer was Alfred Nobel, the Swedish manufacturer who invited dynamite and later inspired the Nobel Prize in the categories of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, and peace.
No one could figure out his name though and with that Youkydis instead wrote, “Who is this handsome gentleman?” on his card and when revealed, played it off with a casual shrug. His response took over the Internet like wildfire.
Some may think his response was incredibly gutsy but in fact, he is used to making up answers like that on the stop. The Inquisitr reveals that the former improve teacher has appeared in a number of comedy specials on television in the past. Youkydis is also a member of the imrpov troupe Uprights Citizens Brigade and has been a guest on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. In addition he has contributed to Saturday Night Live for Weekend Update and written GQ, SPY and Entertainment Weekly. Currently, Youkydis writes for Buzzfeed.
Congratulations Youkydis, you have become the Internet’s favorite Jeopardy loser.
