Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young has announced his retirement from the National Football League.
ESPN reported that the 31-year-old, who hasn’t started a game since 2011, announced on Saturday that he was calling it quits.
"I'm retired," Young told KXAN in Austin, Texas. "Unless we get a great opportunity, something guaranteed ... I've already started moving forward ... It's definitely official, I think, in my book."
The opportunities Young received after his days with Tennessee included a backup role to former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick and very brief stints with the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns.
The former first-round pick filed for bankruptcy in January and reached a settlement with creditors in February. CBS Sports noted that he is now set to work for his alma mater at the University of Texas.
The details of his there employment there have not yet been finalized.
For his career, Young threw for 8,964 yards and 46 touchdowns and made the Pro Bowl twice.
