Being a station that hosts such hit shows as Louie, Fargo, American Horror Story, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Archer, The Americans, Sons of Anarchy, Justified and Wilfred, just to name a few, alongside a variety of soon-to-be-hit shows on the way, some cuts have to be made. Unfortantely for Paul Giamatti fans, one of those cuts has been his upcoming show Hoke.

According to Screen Crush, the station has decided to pass on the show that would have featured Giamatti as the title character, a detective enduring a mid-life crisis in the mid-80s. Based on the books of author Charles Willeford, the show was set to be a darkly comedic drama.

In addition to starring, Giamatti was also set to executive produce the show alongside Scott Frank, who was also writing and directing the project. Also set to star in the show was John Carroll Lynch and Oona Chaplin. Giamatti signed onto the project back in August.

Of the three drama pilots ordered over the last year, including The Strain and Tyrant, both of which are set to premiere this summer, Hoke is the only one that is not going to be getting a full season from the station.

No word has been announced as to whether or not Frank and his crew will be shopping the show around to other networks, if that is an option at this point.
