Brace yourselves, spoilers are coming.
Michelle Fairley, on the other hand, will not. The 24: Live Another Day actress confirmed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that her Game of Thrones character, Catelyn Stark, will not return in the resurrected form of Lady Stoneheart.
“Yeah the character’s dead. She’s dead,” Fairley replied when asked about whether or not she’d heard if Lady Stoneheart’s arc would appear in the show.
Lady Stoneheart appeared at the end of George R.R. Martin’s third A Song of Ice and Fire novel A Storm of Swords, which seasons three and four of Game of Thrones were roughly based on. The vengeful Catelyn was resurrected when Beric Dondarrion, the leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners, magically gave his life to her. From that point on, Lady Stoneheart led the Brotherhood against the traitorous Frey family, the chief offenders in the infamous Red Wedding.
Fans fully expected season four to end with an appearance by Lady Stoneheart. However, USA Today reported that the finale’s director, Alex Graves, hinted that the character wouldn’t appear at all. Fairley’s statement seems to confirm this, but showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have yet to comment.
