Just because you die in Game of Thrones doesn’t mean that your career is over. Pedro Pascal, who played the mysterious Prince Oberyn on the hit HBO series, has joined a new Netflix project, just days after his final GoT episode aired.
Pascal will star on Narcos, a new original series the streaming service is working on. According to Deadline, which first reported the casting, the project was written by Chris Brancato (Hannibal) and will be directed by RoboCop remake director Jose Padilha. Wagner Moura (Elysium) will co-star.
Narcos centers on the fight between law enforcement and drug cartels over the cocaine trade. Pascal and Moura will star on opposite sides of the law, with Pascal as a Mexican DEA agent heading to Colombia to kill Moura’s drug kingpin character for the U.S. government.
Gaumont is producing the series with Padilha and Eric Newman as executive producers. It is set to premiere on Netflix next year.
Pascal’s Prince Oberyn was introduced in the season four premiere of Game of Thrones and became a favorite character, but the show’s writers stuck with George R.R. Martin’s books. That meant that the character met his end in last week’s “The Mountain and The Viper.”
Pascal was also seen recently in USA Network’s Graceland and CBS’ The Mentalist.
