Gary Oldman apologized once again for his controversial comments that were published in a Playboy interview this week. The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes actor has already apologized, but told Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he was sorry for what he said.
At the beginning of the interview, Kimmel thanked Oldman for following through with the scheduled appearance, which was intended to promote his new film. Instead, the Playboy quotes made up most of the interview.
“I said some things that were poorly considered. From my heart, I am profoundly sorry,” Oldman said, notes People. He went on to say that the comments he made were not appropriate in any context.
In the Playboy interview, Oldman appeared to be defending Alec Baldwin’s use of homophobic slurs and Mel Gibson’s infamous anti-Semitic rant, while trying to make a point about political correctness. Oldman later apologized in a statement, which the Anti-Defamation League called “insufficient.”
“I am deeply remorseful that comments I recently made in the Playboy Interview were offensive to many Jewish people,” Oldman said in his open letter to the organization. “Upon reading my comments in print — I see how insensitive they may be, and how they may indeed contribute to the furtherance of a false stereotype.”
