Broadway toasted the best of the past season, with A Gentleman’s Guide To Love & Murder coming out as the best musical of the year. All The Way, starring Bryan Cranston as President Lyndon B. Johnson, won best play.
The awards were well-spread out, with Gentleman’s Guide only winning three other awards. Robert L. Freedman won best book for a musical and Darko Tresnjak won best director of a musical. Linda Cho won for her costume design.
Best revival of a play went to A Raisin in the Sun, which also took home best performance by an actress in a featured role in a play for Sophie Okonedo. Kenny Leon also won for his directing.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch won best revival of a musical and Neil Patrick Harris won for his leading role. Lena Hall won for her performance in a featured role. Kevin Adams also won for his lighting design.
Jason Robert Brown won for his The Bridges of Madison County score. Bryan Cranston took home best performance by a lead actor in a play for All The Way and Audra McDonald won for her lead role in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill.
Jessie Mueller won best actress in a leading role for a musical for Beautiful - The Carole King Musical. Mark Rylance won for his featured role in Twelfth Night. Featured role in a musical went to James Monroe Iglehart for Aladdin.
The Tonys were hosted by Hugh Jackman and broadcast live on CBS from Radio City Music Hall.
