Ghana suspended two of its star players right before its final group stage game against Portugal.

Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari were suspended after separate incidents at a practice, according to Yahoo Sports.

.

According to the Ghana Football Association, Muntari was suspended after “unprovoked physical attack on an Executive Committee member of the GFA and a management member of the Black Stars.”

Boatend was suspended after he hurled “vulgar verbal insults targeted at Coach Kwesi Appiah during the team’s training session this week,” according to a separate statement by the GFA.

Earlier this week Ghana was broiled in another controversy when the players demanded their appearance fees that they have not received, according to the AP.

Ghana’s government sent the team $3 million prior to the Portugal game, which guaranteed the players would play, according to Bloomberg.

Ghana ended up losing to Portugal 2-1 ending any hope of them advancing to the first knockout round. If they had won and the United States had lost by more than two goals, Ghana would have advanced, according to NESN.
