ABC news anchor Robin Roberts will be receiving a 2014 Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism. She will accept the 31st annual award at a luncheon ceremony Oct. 6 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel. Known for her gratitude, she is taken back by the thought of people seeing her in a class that only certain journalists who have won the award had accomplished.
“I’m truly humbled to join the list of remarkable journalists who have received the Walter Cronkite Award. I'm honored to be selected and look forward to spending time with the students at Arizona State University. I know we're all in great hands with this next generation of journalists,” said Roberts, reported by ASU.
She is an inspiration not only for her work, but also for battling with breast cancer and a bone marrow disorder. Her battle with cancer started in 2007 and her bone marrow fight started in 2012. Cronkite School Dean Christopher Callahan stated Roberts has made outstanding contributions to journalism and demonstrated great personal courage, confirmed by the New York Daily News.
Roberts has been a journalist since the year 1983 and has not stopped ever since. She is noted for being apart of two major television news broadcasts. From the years 1990 until 2005 she was apart of ESPN’s Sportscenter, and since 1995 she has been apart of Good Morning America. She has received accolades for her success as a journalist and high praise as a news anchor.
