Students at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas are frustrated with their recently increased tuition and the $225,000 that Hillary Clinton is set to be paid as a speaking fee for her upcoming appearance.
The fee that she is being paid will go to her family charity, Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation, but she has made plenty at other recent appearances, including $300,000 for speaking at UCLA a few months ago, The Wall Street Journal reports.
UNLV is raising tuition 17 percent over the next four years and students are speaking out that Clinton should instead donate the money she will earn to the college. Student government spokesman Daniel Waqar said the former secretary of state should "donate the money back to students.
"Donating the money back would be an example of her standing for higher education and standing for students."
According to CNN, a university spokeswoman said that the money came from "private donations secured by the UNLV foundation" and none were from the school itself.
Clinton has been under fire ever since she spoke recently about being "dead broke" after leaving the White House in 2001. Political opponents latched onto her quote, as the Clintons had enough to still afford two houses, saying she is out of touch with real voters.
