The Houston Rockets are trading center Omer Asik to the New Orleans Pelicans. They are doing so to clear up room for big named free agents such as LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony. Asik will join Anthony Davis in New Orleans to form a frontcourt duel of rim protectors the Pelicans have been trying to acquire for a while. However, this trade cannot be concluded until the NBA draft is over due to NBA rules.
Asik wanted to be traded from the Rockets a while ago after Dwight Howard signed as a free agent, reported by Yahoo Sports. His role completely changed when Howard was acquired, and to make matters worse Asik was injured last season. He wanted a new start with another team and his wish was granted.
This trade the Rockets made also gives them the opportunity to trade guard Jeremy Lin to throw even more money at big named free agents, according to ESPN.
