Calling James Franco a multi-hyphenate doesn’t even scratch the surface of what he has done in the entertainment industry. You can now add off-Broadway director to the list. On Sunday, the actor agreed to direct The Long Shrift.
The play was written by Robert Boswell and will be presented by Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, during the company’s 20th anniversary, reports The New York Times.
Boswell announced earlier in the month that Rattlestick would produce the play. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will star Scott Haze, Ahna O'Reilly, Brian Lally, Allie Gallerani and Ally Sheedy.
Of the cast, Haze is a frequent Franco collaborator. He appeared in Franco’s William Faulkner adaptation As I Lay Dying and stars in Franco’s Child of God, based on a Cormac McCarthy story.
The Long Shrift will start performances on July 7 and will run through Aug. 23.
Franco has worked hard to establish himself in nearly every facet of the entertainment industry. He is currently on Broadway in Of Mice And Men with Chris O’Dowd and has plenty of film projects in the works. His next big release is The Interview with Seth Rogen, which opens in October.
