Justin Rose was tied for the lead walking to the tee box at 18 at Congressional. After his tee shot found the rough, he tried to hit between two trees and found his ball into the water. Rose would sink a 15-foot bogey putt to stay alive.

One hole behind him was Shawn Stefani, who bogeyed 17 putting both players at 4-under. Stefani missed a birdie putt on 18, which set up the first playoff in the short eight years of this events existence according to PGAtour.com

The two squared off on hole 18, where Stefani made the same mistake as Rose had done earlier. Stefani took a drop do to the grandstands impeding his view of the green; the subsequent shot went into the water allowing Rose to two-putt for par. Stefani made double bogey.

Rose’s win was his first since last summer at the U.S. Open at Merion. This victory marks his sixth PGA Tour win, which moved him up to seventh in the world according to Fox sports
