Vine gave us the 15 second social media video and Instagram gave us the social media geared toward the single-shot picture. Now the app Flipagram combines the beauty of a single shot and video all into one, allowing users to post a digital flipbook in a single post.
According to The Hollywood Reporter celebrities have begun to embrace the app, allowing them to share an event, or even an entire year, in a single post. Led by Farhad Mohit, whose successes include Shopzilla and Bizrate.com, Flipagram picked up steam at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York when designers including Monique Lhuillier, Diane Von Furstenberg and BCBG opted to make mini-shows of their top looks. Victoria Beckham used the app to share her latest clothing design collections in a single post, and musicans like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears have used the app to show behind the scenes of tours and the making of their latest album.
Using celebrities to endorse and use an app is nothing new (any part of the Kardashian clan receives a substantial income every time they post about Keek), but when asked about a celebrity seeding program for the app Mohit stated, “It's a combination of both but for the most part these celebs use it themselves.”
In February, Entrepreneur Sky noted Flipagram became the number one downloaded app, surpassing Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat. Although Flipagram is not a social media site, like Instagram, the company is working on one but no word on an exact launch date yet.
