Kansas quarterback Jake Heaps is transferring to the University of Miami. It was made official over the weekend and he will be eligible to play in 2014.
Heaps, who was the number one pro-style quarterback in 2010, started his career at BYU. As a freshman he threw for 2,316 yards and 15 touchdowns, which are school records for a freshman quarterback. In his sophomore year he threw for nine touchdowns and eight interceptions in six games. He transferred to Kansas after his sophomore year and sat out the 2012 season due to NCAA transfer rules, according to Yahoo Sports. Miami will be the third school that Heaps has played for.
"I'm extremely excited to join the Miami football program and to get down there and compete," Heaps said. "I really felt a good connection to (offensive coordinator) coach (James) Coley and coach (Al) Golden and the whole staff there."
Last season Heaps played in 11 games for Kansas. In those 11 games he completed 49 percent of his passes, throwing for 1,414 yards, eight touchdowns, and ten interceptions, according to Fox Sports.
Heaps will be competing for the starting quarterback job at Miami. Projected starter Ryan Williams, Kevin Olsen, and freshmen Brad Kaaya and Malik Rosier will be competing with Heaps for the job. It will be interesting to see who gets the job because Kansas coach Charlie Weis announced that Montell Cozart would be the starter after Kansas’ spring game.
