Famed journalist Lisa Ling learned that she had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at the age of 40 while filming an episode of Our America with Lisa Ling. Ling says she has struggled with focus and attention since childhood and it often adversely affected her schooling.

Ling was examined by world renowned ADD/ADHD expert Craig Liden. The test required her to complete a series of tasks including picking out two matching images out of a set of 20 and placing her right hand on the examiner's left shoulder, according to The Huffington Post. In a video clip from the episode, Ling was said to have struggled with parts of the test that "demanded focused sustained attention."

The test concluded that Lisa Ling met all of the criteria of having ADHD. Ling was taken aback by the news.
"My head is kind of spinning. But I feel a little bit of relief because, for so long, I've been fighting it and I've been so frustrated with this inability to focus," she said.

Our America with Lisa Ling airs on Thursdays at 10/9c. It was cancelled in March after four seasons according to The Wrap. The fifth and final season debuted on May 29.
