But Vogue wasn't the first to celebrate Nyongo's beauty. People named her their Most Beautiful Woman in the World back in April this year, and her red carpet looks have been praised and have earned her a spot on several beauty campaigns.

The actress was one of the stars of Miu Miu's spring/summer 2014 campaign, along with Elizabeth Olsen, Elle Fanning and Bella Heathcote. She also is the very first African-American face of Lancome cosmetics, according to Us Magazine.

Nyong'o's career took a fast climb after her Oscar win, so much so that even the actress herself hadn't realized just how widely-recognized she had become.

"It just feels like the entertainment industry exploded into my life," Nyong'o says. "People who seemed so distant all of a sudden were right in front of me and recognizing me—before I recognized them!"
