NBA legend Magic Johnson has been all over the news ever since the 2014 NBA playoffs started. Johnson and Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s name have been linked because Sterling was caught on tape saying words that were not very nice towards the basketball icon.
Racial comments were made and Sterling told his girlfriend at the time he did not want Johnson attending any of the Clippers home games. When Johnson heard about the comments, he was ready to take action right away.
In an exclusive interview with Ebony, the Hall of Famer states that he was happy to be the voice for his community about the Sterling race issue. "I'm glad that I was able to stand up for our people and be the voice,” said Johnson, reported by Ebony.
Last month Anderson Cooper interviewed both Sterling and Johnson individually to get both perspectives on what had happened. However, Sterling did not say anything nice about Johnson. He questioned Magic’s contributions to urban America. That did not sit well with Johnson at all. He feels Sterling is just reaching to help save his team.
"My whole life is devoted to urban America. So, you know I just wish he knew the facts when he's talking. But he's a man who's upset and he's reaching. He's reaching. He's trying to find something that he can grab on to help him save his team. And it's not going to happen," said Johnson, confirmed by CNN.
