Maria Sharapova has played her way into her third straight French Open final. After defeating Canadian Eugenie Bouchard 4-6 7-5 6-2, Sharapova will take on Simona Halep of Romania this Saturday.
Sharapova struggled through the semifinal at Roland Garros, losing her 5-2 lead in the second set, but said she was “happy and proud” of herself despite not playing her best, reported BBC.
Halep only needed two sets to beat her semifinal opponent, defeating Germany’s Andrea Petkovic 6-2 7-6 (7-4) to earn a spot in her first Grand Slam final.
As Sharapova looks to win her second French Open title, she knows she has her work cut out for her.
“The thing against Simona is, I have to play really aggressive and you have to step into the court so she doesn’t have the time to play her game, because when she starts opening up the court she plays super smart, and she really uses the whole court,” Sharapova told ESPN.
