Though previously only set to appear in the show’s first season, Matthew Mcconaughey now says he would be willing to make a return to True Detective.

In an interview with Deadline talking about his experience on the HBO series, Mcconaughey said that doing a single season was initially what appealed to him about making True Detective, and that at the time he would never have signed on for multiple seasons.

However, after the success of the show, Mcconaughey says he is open to a return.

“I liked True Detective, the whole series and the experience of making it, so much that I’d be open to doing another one now,” the actor told Deadline.

What does this mean for future seasons of True Detective? As reported by TV Line, Season 2 will take place in California and star three leads, featuring none of the same characters as Season 1 in the style of other anthology shows like American Horror Story.

Like American Horror Story, could True Detective Season 2 see the return of Mcconaughey in a different role? Or might we see the return of Rust Cohle in Season 3?
