Wright heads to New York for MRI:
The New York Mets (36-43), were coming off a tremendous week winning five of their last six games. Two losses later and a Friday that has fans scared to death though and the mood is somber again.
Today it was announced that third-baseman and franchise-face David Wright will be scratched from tonight’s game against the Pirates and will head back to New York for an MRI on his left shoulder. He seemed to aggravate the shoulder in Thursday’s loss to Pittsburgh, and originally hurt while trying to steal a base earlier this month.
“We’ll follow the protocol like normal,” Wright said. “I’ll head back for an MRI and hopefully it would just be some rest and an injection. Hopefully I’ll be back in a couple days,” according to NYDailyNews.com.
For the last place Mets, losing Wright would be a devastating blow to an already “sour-feeling” season. Wright is hitting .277 with six home-runs and 44 runs knocked in, according to MLB.com. Youngster Eric Campbell will start at third-base tonight in place of Wright.
Murphy and Colon to be trade-chips:
With the Mets seemingly needing a 69’ like miracle to give fans hope this season, the question quickly shifts to future-planning. Two major trade-chips they have in the arsenal are second-baseman Daniel Murphy and Bartolo Colon.
The question of whether to trade these guys before the deadline (a little over a month away), will become of faster interest very soon.
Murphy has been one of their most consistent hitters this season (.296, 6 HR’s and 30 RBI), and Colon (after a shaky start) has been by-far their best pitcher.
