Mexico lost versus Netherlands on Sunday, June 29 in the FIFA World Cup elimination game.
According to NBC News, many fans peacefully gathered in the streets at Huntington Park after Mexico's defeat. They waved flags, banged drums and blew horns. Around 100 police officers were in riot shield, on horseback and in armored vehicles attempting to shut down the streets of Pacific Boulevard at Florence Avenue to anticipate huge crowds.
Surprisingly, majority of the shenanigans were peaceful as reported by the law enforcement officers. There were no injuries and zero arrest were made. A few hours later, the Pacific Boulevard was reopened. This has been six consecutive times Mexico made it to round two at the World Cup without reaching the quarterfinals. A sad fan reacted by saying,"We almost made it, we almost made it. I want to cry, man,"
According to CBS News Mexico's goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa secured his team in the game with 2 brilliant saves. However, during the second half of the game, he was defeated by Sneijder's impactful drive during the penalty when he dived on the opposite side of the goal post in an attempt to save Huntelaar's goal kick.
Netherlands are to play against Costa Rica in the quarterfinals on Saturday July 5.
